I'm coming into view as the world is turning. Haven't you noticed I've made it this far? Now, everyone can see me burning.Tessa was there for pride, many of her friends had invited her to go along and to join in, which meant in their language hey come and dance together – something that she certainly was always up to doing. It meant like always getting out of her comfort zone and while most of her roommates always said she did fine, she knew that it was weird how quiet she could be, sometimes focusing tentatively on other’s movements, that she would sit on the couch listening to the other girls bustle around her, sometimes arguing over clothes and talking about boys – sometimes even girls. She was known as the quiet girl, sometimes coming off as cold no matter how many times that she smiled or how many times that she made an effort to try and fit in. Tessa had never fit in, not with others, over the years it had gotten better as she had gotten comfortable around her friends, but now it was starting over and that was a problem. It was a problem because these girls didn’t know that she used to spend a lot of time in the hospital due to exhaustion because of her powers, or that she had come from a family full of so many personalities that it was hard to keep up and she rather observe than be someone who rushed in the middle. It had taken her so long to finally feel comfortable dancing in front of others due to both low self esteem and anxiety, but there she was, using it now as a crutch to communicate. Her roommates meant well, as they told her to go walk around on her own. Why they had assumed she was either going to go run into someone to talk to – or to actually socialize was beyond her, but she did find some food, taking part in the only fried food she was allowed for the week, and settled down on one of the benches, which she hoped was being avoided because there were pigeons and not because it was a place where a drifter was murdered. @charles j. elliott what a dork.

Catch the wind

Charles wasn't entirely sure how he felt about Pride. He'd gone once when he and Damian first became buddies, only to be mistaken all day for his boyfriend. Which was fine he supposed. Damian wasn't bad, but he was a boy, and Charles very much did not like boys in that way. So he'd supported him from afar instead, typically working during the main event as it were. He wasn't one of those gross straight people who thought there should be straight pride, and he wasn't one of those gross straight people who thought being around gay men meant he'd be hit on all day (although admittedly he knew men were pigs no matter what so a little justified fear never hurt). He just hadn't really gone out of his way to go again until this year.

He wanted to raise Sydney better than he himself had been raised. He didn't want his son to grow up judging people. He didn't want his son to consider changing before going with a close friend to Pride because maybe these pants made him look a little bit too gay. So this time when Damian had reminded him it was coming up, he'd asked if he could join him for a while. It was funnier to him now, with a toddler in his arms, to be mistaken for a couple. Like Damian could look after a baby.

Charles hadn't anticipated that Sydney was going to be antsy and over it so quickly, though. He didn't want to hang out with Uncle if it meant he couldn't run around, and dad unfortunately was too paranoid he'd end up getting tripped over in the crowd to put him down. So he'd wandered off to where it wasn't quite so busy, letting Sydney toddle along happily. It wasn't like he'd gone to Pride expecting to get hit on, but it definitely wasn't like he'd thought of himself to stoop so low as to even think of hitting on some poor girl. But here the thought had already planted itself, and what was the harm at smiling at someone? He couldn't help that his kid was determined to wobble his way to see the pigeons.

Now, everyone can see me burning.Support, she was there to support every single rainbow adorned, beautifully on "fleek" make up covered, and fabulous people that were all there. In part this was a community she was familiar with, there had been a great number of men in ballet who were a bit loose in the pointe shoes, and plenty of the women were similarly in the same boat, but that was certainly nothing that was against them - she in fact loved them. That was in a world where she was capable of getting a word in edgewise in a group full of lively hip twenty somethings who had the communication skills of a wise old parrot who's owner was a grumpy old man who swore at it a lot. However there was the whole point of going outside that meant you should talk to others, something that was never a strong suit for Tessa, she was someone who by definition of life wasn't the biggest talker, between social anxiety and general enjoyment of being more observing of others, it was just sometimes easier to keep her mouth shut. Part of her believed that she liked to observe more because it connected more to her powers, which took away kinetic energy from moving objects - such as humans or cars, without harming those that were providing it.Part of her knew, there was going to be someone out there that she'd have to talk to. It was a event where you were supposed to at least socialize a little, and it certainly wouldn't hurt to make friends. It wasn't long before someone came up and sat near her and her overly fattening loaded french fries. Despite her best intentions, she was staring, both between the person that was there and the small child that had followed. Did she ask, did she say hello, did she hope that he wasn't kidnapping the small child that - looked somewhat like him and that she was witnessing a crime? All of the above of course and her rational side knew she probably should say something. Tessa - words were easy, you said them, you spoke them, they didn't need to be extreme. But there she was staring half between her fries and this stranger. "Hello." she felt like the Beast who was unrefined and would smile awkwardly when he didn't know what to do in social situations. "Is he yours?" that was a good conversation, people liked to talk about their kids, she spoke softly, but loud enough to be heard.@charles j. elliott what a awkward human..

Catch the wind

The closer he got to this girl the worse he felt. This was no way for him to behave, wasn't the right time or place or day. But he was allowed to think she was pretty. He was allowed to be in the same five foot radius as her. If he didn't act like a pig, then he didn't need to feel guilty for acting like a pig. He could just continue along and pretend nothing had happened. Nothing would have happened if he just took off now. But Sydney had decided he wanted to climb on to the bench, and he hated that he'd made such a big fuss about him 'sitting like a big boy' last time they'd been near a bench. He gave an apologetic smile as he lifted Sydney to sit on the bench, sitting down crouching in front to make sure he wouldn't get any other ideas like trying to steal a fry. Babies were horrible for mooching. His puppy had better manners than his kid did.

"Hi," he grinned, and this was fine. This was just two people talking. "Yeah, this is my little man, Sydney." He turned to Sydney. "Can you say 'hi' and 'I'm sorry for invading your bench'?" The toddler did neither of these things, happily squeaking behind his soother and covering his face. "Sorry, he's in a bit full of it right now. I'm not actually sure why he's decided he wants to sit, because five minutes ago he was shrieking to be walking around." He was trying to sound annoyed, but his tone was much too fond. He loved his baby and his toddler logic. Even if he was making this an awkward situation. "I'm Charles."

Charles didn't want to bother this poor girl, but he also didn't want to seem like even more of an asshole by dragging his kid off. The way Sydney had been acting today, he highly doubted he'd be fine to toddle along until he was good and ready. He wasn't doing anything bad. He was just sitting on a bench powering away at his soother and happily patting at his Dad's hand where it sat on his leg- ready to catch him if he decided to flop over any which way. If he dragged him away he'd probably yell, and that would probably be much more annoying. But he supposed if it came down to it that was the option he'd have to take.

I'm coming into view as the world is turning. Haven't you noticed I've made it this far? Now, everyone can see me burning. This was to be expected, there was going to be people there, there were going to be people who wanted to talk, it wasn’t like the universe was full of introverts who would just casually nod to others in the vicinity in a secret language. This of course was a terrible place for introverts, but there she was, trying – at least trying to eat French fries, and less on the whole social aspect, but of course it would find her. It wasn’t like Tessa hated people, she loved them, greatly, but it was something that she could handle, there was a cute child – there was a cute boy, which the actual thought of him being cute would betray her instantly so she continued to push that thought aside. Tessa watched the little boy, he was cute – and he didn’t seem to be the sort that screamed loudly that would shatter someone’s ear drums – but then again even if he was she’d probably think the same thing. ”It’s okay, it’s a pretty swell bench, I’m happy to share. Besides he’s cute and saying no to that face would be a crime.” which of course that could be because it was public property and all, but it wasn’t like she had instantly ran away when either had made moves towards it so Tessa couldn’t be that honestly distressed about it. ”I think he’s trying to charm his way into my French fries.” which if it wasn’t 100% weird for a stranger to share French fries she would have already offered, she had grown up with siblings most if not all food was not off limits to someone else’s hands in your food. Much like the thing called personal space was long since gone out of the window, both from her large family and from having an endless number of roommates. Tessa smiled for a moment, forgetting herself as she stared at – the man now given the name Charles. It was only after a brief moment of awkward silence – her signature trade mark had completed before she shook her head. ”Sorry – Tessa. That’s my name – my name is Tessa. Summers. If that’s important, I honestly don’t know.” you didn’t have to give him your life story.”But are you two enjoying your time?” that seemed like a relatively easy going question, it wasn’t the kind that sounded like she was prying. @charles j. elliott she is basically a human version of her rabbits

Catch the wind

"Yeah, saying no to this one is pretty much impossible, it's quite the issue," he chuckled. He knew he was absolutely screwed the older Sydney got and the more clearly he could ask for things. Now it was relatively easy to redirect his attention, but for a little boy he could be incredibly strong willed. Charles also was just a horrible softie when it came to his boy. "You're entirely right and I'm so sorry, Sydney, you literally just had mini donuts, come on now." It should have been unnerving to be stared at, but Charles was pretty used to Sydney behaving in the exact same way. Of course, Sydney hadn't quite gotten the grasp of communication, and he kind of hoped that maybe this girl had a bit. At least a bit. She had a nice smile even if she didn't- it was kind of contagious.

She had it enough to introduce herself back, and Charles couldn't help the big dumb smile he gave her in response to throwing in her last name. "It's wonderful to meet you, Tessa Summers." And it wasn't really a lie. He wasn't just trying to pick her up, would've started producing pheromones already at this point if he still had a goal in mind. No, he was going about this honestly. If all he got was to know the name of the pretty girl on the bench at Pride, well, that was a hell of a lot better than nothing. Chances were she wasn't in to dudes and that was okay and to be expected. But... He could still be a little hopeful.

Charles took the second to fix the little cap Sydney was wearing, which was a bit of a challenge when it immediately caught his attention. "Yes, I'd say we've had fun so far." The cap fixing had changed now to a game, one hand on Sydney's leg and the other faking out going for his hat to grab at his little hands instead. This made it so Sydney wouldn't mess up his hat, and he didn't have the time to sit and stare at Tessa's fries. "We saw Uncle," he said, pausing for Sydney to excitedly kick his legs and flail his hands. He loved his Uncle Damian. "We spent a good hour with him, but it's pretty tough for a little guy to be lugged around in a crowd and fed junk food for that long. So we ended up coming where it's a bit less of a high traffic area so he could actually walk around." He rest his hand back down beside Sydney, always ready to catch him even if he was smiling at Tessa again. He could stop his pheromones but he couldn't stop smiling at her for the life of him. "And now we're here with you, Tessa Summers."

Now, everyone can see me burning.Goodness she loved kids, they were always so eager to learn and always wanting to get into everything, she was waiting for the day when she was brave enough to offer herself to babysit her niece and nephew from Scott, because the idea of taking on two children seemed – ominous. Sure her powers would kind of keep her in the green when it came to what energy that she could have, but it was also – never an exact science on how much or how little was in a reserve, and generally when she finally collapsed on the floor would it become quite apparent. Tessa unfortunately didn’t have a meter on her that said when her “tank” was full or when it was nearing empty, something that would have proved to be helpful and not frighten a majority of people whom she had spent time with. ”As someone who doesn’t enjoy fried food very often, I now wished I had gotten mini donuts, even if these are loaded with basically everything on them.” she was sure there was probably a lack of appeal to loaded with cheese, bacon, chives and – her own touch of ranch French fries. Tessa certainly still stood by her – if it wasn’t creepy she would have shared concept. How did she get this far into a conversation? What did you talk about after the fact that you had food that looked like you were starving, went to introduce yourself – including your last name, as if he was going to look you up in a phone book like it was the 1990’s. Did they even bother with the phone book anymore what did they look like other than booster seats for the terribly short? She half said her name because – if they knew one of her siblings it could come in handy, but she wasn’t about to always use them as a cover – no matter how helpful they could be. But the fact that it was wonderful to meet her felt skeptical, but also – sweet and she was trying hard not to blush.Tessa was having a hard time not to just sit there and watch how cute they were together – Sydney and Charles, if she was the kind of exuberant woman she would have used the words ovaries were exploding but she wasn’t ever going to use that euphemism. She was earnest when she listened to him talk about their day, glad to hear it had been going well. Tessa was always the listener, before the talker when it came to strangers. ”I could only imagine, probably needs a long nap.” she knew she needed one. ”But I understand, I came to get away from the crowd myself. Anxiety and all.” and there was too much bubbling energy out there it gave her migraines. ”Though I’m sorry you’re stuck even briefly with Tessa Summers, I heard she’s a real bore.” she grinned teasing at her own self was how she socialized. @charles j. elliott child pls.

Catch the wind

Charles gasped in mock shock, "you came all the way out here and didn't get mini donuts? Horrible." He shook his head sadly, but then he was right back to grinning. Why couldn't he stop grinning? Why was he still half flirting with her? "Those honestly look much better than mini donuts, if I'm being entirely honest. Wow, how many times can I say 'honest'." He needed to stop the half flirting, it was making him stuoid. He needed to go all in or stop entirely. But... But she was smiling back at him. So stopping wasn't an option. But it felt wrong to come here, corner her on her bench, and try and pick her up. It was hard being garbage with a soft heart.

It was nice to hear someone mentions naps without it being a negative. Normally when someone suggested a nap for his son, it was because said son was fussing or crying. It wasn't often that he did either of those things but he was still a baby and babies had limited ways of communicating. Tears meant a great deal of things, one of which could be he was tired, but it didn't immediately mean that he needed a nap. Barely anyone ever said it casually like this. It was just the truth- he would need a long nap after so much fun.

"Ooooh yeah he's going to have a nice long nap when we get home." He'd admittedly probably join him. Depression naps couldn't be taken at any given moment when you had a baby, but it seemed to be easy as pie to pass out with a toddler napping in his arms. "Anxiety? I'm sorry to hear that," he told her genuinely. "Now don't be like that, I don't think she's bad at all." It was a bit difficult to be charming with a baby patting at his mouth, but he was determine at this point. They'd been smiling at each other for what should have been an uncomfortable amount of time. Surely it had to mean something.

Catch the wind

"I probably wouldn't eat for a week if I had a strict diet like that," he laughed, shaking his head. He admired anyone who could actually stick to a diet. He could barely stick to getting proper nutrition at all. Sydney was easy to feed, he wasn't a picky boy, and he only needed small portions. So it was easy for Charles to stick to the bad habit of surviving mostly off of coffee and cigarettes with the odd bowl of cereal thrown in. But the food he ate when he did actually eat was never much better,

He laughed at her honesty and offer, accepting any and all reasons to stay here with her. "That's very kind of you, you really don't-" he was cut off by the tiny hand previous petting at his face reaching for a fry. Sydney was slightly uncoordinated but steady enough that he didn't upset the tray, successfully grabbing two fries in one hand and removing his soother with the other. "Excuse me, where are your manners? Say thank you." It didn't matter to him that Sydney wasn't yet two, he was taught much better than this. He'd gone in to full Dad Mode.

"I'll take your sucky, and you say thank you," he tried again, hand held out for the soother. He wasn't loud or angry, just deliberate in his words. It wasn't a request, because he knew his boy knew better. Sydney gave it up easily, free hand coming up to his mouth to motion as if he were blowing a kiss. "No, not dad. Thank Tessa." He waited, serious, until the toddler had done so, turning to face her and sign his thanks. "Good boy, that's better." Crisis averted he could relax again. It felt rude to take her food, but it felt even more rude not to accept the offer. "Thank you."

He waited until his mouth was empty to speak again, his own manners in check now that he'd made a deal about his son. "What are you practising?" It was a safe enough question, and he liked keeping the subject on her. Even if she probably wasn't the most comfortable. He didn't want anything deep, that could (hopefully) come later. He just wanted to know her. This girl who offered strangers her food and didn't just leave when most people would have. There was just something about her, open and honest about her struggles to communicate with him, but refusing to let the conversation die. There he was smiling like an idiot again. "Blue," he answered, "my favourite colour is blue. What's yours?"

I'm coming into view as the world is turning. Haven't you noticed I've made it this far? Now, everyone can see me burning. It was nice to get to talk to new people, it was nice to find even a random stranger to talk to. Maybe Tessa hadn’t exactly wanted it to happen, as she was quite fine in the world where she lived and was ignored. Granted now that she had someone to talk to she felt like she had to talk, and less inclined to sit alone in silence no matter how much she appreciated silence for herself. Her abilities tended to make her more focused on attention than saying anything. ”Well I mean I eat plenty of really good food, I’m also not vegan so I eat – just about everything, just nothing overly fatty.” especially deep fried. She had to maintain a certain diet for her career, something that she appreciated greatly. She knew she didn’t have to share her food, because it was sort of – not important and it was weird, but Sydney certainly wasn’t shy at the idea of taking some. Which she watched with a smile. Tessa of course didn’t need thanks, she was someone who while this was her only chance for something that is fatty for the week, but she was happy to share, something that Tessa took with her from sharing food with siblings over the years. She watched tentatively as both Charles and Sydney had their conversation regarding manners. He seemed to have a good relationship with his son, which was interesting to watch. The boy didn’t take much to find his way to thanking her after some persuasion. ”You’re welcome.” Tessa offered with a smile. She was certainly happy to share with or without some sense of word in regards to it. Tessa at least was comfortable about talking about dancing, it was her job, it was something that she did for money and it was what she did to keep using both her ability with her powers, and something that had fueled her passions since her mother had died and she had been a lost seven year old needing something to get out there. ”Um getting ready for an audition, for the ballet performance for Cinderella in a few weeks, which requires a lot of my time.” which she loved, she liked how she could get lost in dance for hours. ”Am I supposed to feint sarcasm and say wow blue is so unexpected.” she teased. ”I’m a yellow kind of girl. Which sure pink is great and wonderful, but I probably love yellow the most.” because it was so vibrant and it could be so warm and inviting when it wasn’t gaudy yellow like Mustard.@charles j. elliott she is just too sweet.
